#30

Well this one was easier for me than it probably was for most others. Being that I only worked here for four months and have never touched my P: drive nor the S: or Z: drive I was able to clear off everything with out doing much. I created files on all three drives and just deleted them the following day. Thankfully the good advice of iHCPL did not go to waste, because later that night I was able to delete personal files off my computer at home that were years old. At first it made me a little sad inside but I was able to keep the files that were important to me that I no longer used on a flash drive. Thanks again iHCPL!!!

So I sign on to my email account and realize I have a good hundred old messages most of which are book reminders on when my stuffs due. I decided to take some advice from IHCPL and create some folders for my email account. I have my “Important Information” folder, “ILL Notifications”, “Book Order List”, and “Miscellaneous”. After making these folders I simply went through all my messages and put them in the corresponding folder or the trash can. It turns out there’s only really 4 messages I kept and the rest got deleted. Guess you can say I’m doing my part on keeping our email system junk free.

After reading about Getting Things Done, I started putting it to practice. Today when I got to work I tried the first step, Collecting. I made a little list of things that needed to be done today at work, and as obstacles came up that wouldn’t take to long to correct I fixed them immediately. Although I noticed a tremendous change with how hard th work felt and how much I got accomplished it felt as if spending to much time thinking about organizing was wasting more time then actually working. So instead I’ve decided to tweak the idea of GTD and add some steps that are necessary and removed ones that aren’t. I call it “L.A.Z.I.”

L ist- Look at everything that needs to be done and prioritize what needs to get done first

A ttack- Attack the first thing on the top of your list and cross them off as you go.

Z ap- Zap obstacles in your way. Take care of any immediate challenges (IE helping customers, shelving a overfilled cart, etc…)

I nspect- Make sure everything on your list is accomplished and if not repeat the steps in getting it accomplished.

Overall I’m quiet pleased with the results of this module so far and look forward to the other ones, thanks again IHCPL.
